Hwange is vast: some one and a half million hectares of blond grassy plains punctuated with teak forests and thorny scrub. Beneath its wide and endless skies variety exists in plenty. Tucked away in the treeline on the edge of Hwange's Samavundhla Pan, Makalolo Plains overlooks a waterhole where game drinks daily.
Makalolo Plains is a camp where an unbeatable wildlife experience is guaranteed. Makalolo Plains, a classic tented safari camp, is set in the tree line on the edge of the Samavundla Pan in Hwange National Park. The area is frequented by a wide variety of game, including hundreds of elephant, especially in the dry season.
The camp consists of eight luxury tents with en suite facilities set on raised platforms, which are linked to the main lodge building by a raised teak walkway. The main building overlooks the pan providing the perfect setting for sundowners sipped against a backdrop of burning sunsets, and five star candle-lit meals.
The decor is classically simple and unobtrusive. The camp has been constructed with the primary objective of being environmentally friendly. Not far from Makalolo Plains is little Makalolo, an exclusive tented camp for eight guests.
LOCATION:
Approx. 65 km south south-east of Hwange Airport in a remote wilderness area. Daily transfers by light aircraft from Hwange Airport (12 minutes)
